Gifts that Matter is …

a nonprofit organization that supports children and families in need when they face unexpected challenges. We provide meaningful and essential items that are specific to a family’s needs while also promoting hope, resilience, and opportunity.

We believe that small gifts can make a big difference to those in need.

How It Works

We work with schools and social service agencies in our community who identify children and families who are in need of assistance at a critical time. We work together with the social worker and family to determine the specific need, it’s urgency, and how we can help. A hallmark of our program is our rapid turn around time….often days to a week, never months!

The Gifts

We assist low-income families by providing a solution to an urgent need.

• A crib for a single mom on disability.

• A car repair enabling a family to get to school and work.

• Summer camp for a foster child.

• A refrigerator.

• Prescription eyeglasses for a young child.

• A mattress for a teen previously sleeping on the floor.

• A family’s first Christmas tree.

• A computer needed for community college.

Learning to Pivot

As a nonprofit, it is crucial to recognize when your programming needs to pivot. We learned this early on when faced with a pandemic only months after beginning our work. Although our mission was to focus on children and families, we recognized the impact the pandemic was having on teachers and schools. We were aware of the challenges teachers faced as they shifted to the new concept of remote education. Many needed specialized materials to utilize new teaching modalities. We were quick to work with local schools to offer grants to teachers as they navigated the new era of remote education.

Our mission to support children and families never wavered. We helped children by providing Chromebooks, printers, desks, software, and other educational materials that helped promote successful learning while at home. Families who lost jobs and income received the specific items they needed through our gifting program. The support Gifts that Matter received from our community was unexpected and impactful. Together we made a difference in so many lives.

The Gifts that Matter Gala Celebrates 5 Years!
